‘Nip/Tuck’ Creator in Demand for More Shows

Posted under News

It seems that Nip/Tuck has earned quite a following, which happens to include other writers and producers who look up to creator Ryan Murphy for his brilliant ideas.  The creator of the dark medical series recently announced that he will be working on another project, which sees him working with FOX’s umbrella company to work on new shows for the FOX and FX networks.  Recently, we reported that Murphy is currently working on Glee, an hour-long musical comedy which will air on FOX.  Nip/Tuck, on the other hand, was also reported to come to a close in 2011.  That’s a good three years to keep the man busy.

However, it doesn’t end there.  In fact, Murphy will be working on another show, this time for the NBC network, based on the novel Hyper-chondriac: One Man’s Quest to Hurry Up and Calm Down, a 2007 memoir written by Brian Frazer.

The Peacock production company will be developing the half-hour single comedy, which places Murphy in the forefront of the production.  Jason Dean Hall, who worked on the feature adaptation of Grand Theft Auto will serve as script-writer.  Frazer’s Hyper-chondriac revolves around a man who deals with his stress and the ailments it causes.

Similarly, the TV adaptation’s central character is Brian, a pharmaceutical salesman who is forced to sell his wares at hospital and thus thinks that he has some maladies himself.  These illnesses may be real, but the causes are entirely a different thing.

The series will be produced by FOX, where Murphy is currently tied up, but NBC was able to take the bid from others including ABC.  Hall is currently working on the script, and shooting is scheduled to begin early next year.  Meanwhile, Murphy is busy working on FOX’s Glee and FX’s 4 oz, and his hit series Nip/Tuck, which will continue to hit the airwaves until 2011.

‘Nip/Tuck’ guy starts ‘Glee’ club

Posted under News

Nip/Tuck” creator Ryan Murphy is getting into the “American Idol” spirit with “Glee,” a hourlong comedy that has been put on the fast track by Fox for a potential March launch. The project, set in the world of high school glee clubs, was greenlighted immediately after the network received the script.

Following the racy “Nip/Tuck,” Murphy was looking to exercise different creative muscles with a wholesome comedy that the entire family can watch.

“It is a very optimistic, uplifting show for a very dark time,” he said of “Glee.”

“Glee” centers on Will, a thirtysomething teacher at an Ohio high school, who has the daunting task of taking over the school’s dreadful glee club. With help from Will and others, the kids build their confidence and are gradually transformed into winners.

‘Nip/Tuck’ Creator Filled with ‘Glee’

Posted under News

Nip/Tuck creator Ryan Murphy will lighten up a bit with his next project, an hour-long comedy on its way to FOX.

The network has given a pilot commitment to “Glee,” an ensemble show about the worst high-school glee club in America. FOX has put the show on a fast track, according to the showbiz trade papers, hoping to have a pilot ready to view by the end of the year.

Murphy, who has a development deal with FOX sibling 20th Century Fox TV, says he was brainstorming ideas for shows that could pair with “American Idol.” “It seemed to be a natural evolution to do something in that vein,” he says.

The show will center on a Spanish teacher who’s called on to take over his school’s glee club, which is, to put it mildly, bad. Both the students involved and others at the school, however, are game to turn things around. The show will likely feature several musical numbers per episode as the club practices and performs.

Murphy is writing the pilot with fellow “Nip/Tuck” scribe Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, who pitched Murphy the idea. Murphy is also set to direct the pilot and executive produce with Falchuk; Brennan will be a co-exec producer.

Richardson Refutes African Adoption Reports

Posted under News

Nip/Tuck star Joely Richardson has denied reports she is set to follow in the footsteps of Madonna and Angelina Jolie and adopt a baby orphan from Africa.

The British actress recently admitted she was considering adoption after visiting an African orphanage.

But the 43-year-old claims she came away from the trip with a new perspective about adoption.

She says, “I spoke to a woman who works at an orphanage and she said that they encourage as much help and support for the orphanage as we can give, but ideally they like a child not to be taken out of their natural environment. And that stuck with me.

“I just think it’s about what’s in the child’s best interests.”

But Richardson - who has a 16-year-old daughter, Daisy - has praised Madonna’s adoption of Malawian tot David Banda and her subsequent fundraising for other Malawian orphans via her Raising Malawi organisation, insisting her selfless efforts are heroic.

She adds, “There are exceptions, obviously, as in Madonna’s case, when you have a great support system and can reinvest a lot in to a country, the way she has done.”
